Following their recent successful UK tour, and support from the likes of BBC 6 Music, Line Of Best Fit and Brooklyn Vegan, July Talk will release the single ‘Guns + Ammunition’ on 29th September.

‘Guns + Ammunition’ creeps up on you and has you hooked with its infectious “woo-hoo-hoos”, in less than a minute. The song is about the end of an unhealthy relationship. The liberating experience of transition, of leaving something behind, of shedding your skin. It’s menacing pop at it’s finest. The accompanying video was conceived and directed by the band. It perfectly exemplifies their distinctive noir aesthetic and has proved so popular in their home country of Canada, it’s had over 650,000 views.

The Toronto five-piece, who formed in 2012, comprise vocalist/guitarist Peter Dreimanis, vocalist Leah Fay, guitarist Ian Docherty, bassist Josh Warburton and drummer Danny Miles. Together, the five write and record, shoot and edit every last second of music and film they put out under the July Talk name. They mine the rich seam of rock and pop culture to create a unique blend, which can only be described as the sound of whiskey-soaked Delta blues meets sinister pop lullabies, to strike a frenzied balance between Americana and dance-floor-filling indie-rock. This sound is augmented by the band’s compelling, noirish visual aesthetic.

In March of this year, July Talk were nominated at the Juno Awards (Canada’s equivalent of the Grammys) alongside bands like Arcade Fire. They performed at the gala and gave a glimpse of the combustible, occasionally unhinged, live shows that have sent them from playing sweaty 500 capacity shows to the stages of some of the biggest festivals in Canada in 2014.
