Janky Jukebox #5 – 21st May
The twisted, sadistic, ridiculistic live music night returns for the second time in a month. For the 5th edition of Janky Jukebox we’re going BIG, with 6 fantastic acts and a bigger venue. In the discussion bellow, each act has a poll, in which you can suggest and vote for songs you’d like to see them play. Each act then has to arrange a version of the highest voted song in their poll and include as part of their half-hour set. Past nights have seen a folk trio cover Darude’s Sandstorm and a post-punk band cover the Fireman Sam theme tune. VOTING CLOSES ON THE 7TH OF MAY.

Sylvette create soaring ballads in the style of Jeff Buckley which nose dive into violin shrieks, snarling guitar riffs and the unbridled energy of early Arcade Fire shows.
New Manhattan will grind your dancefloor to dust with soul power. Dumb as the Ramones and twice as danceable, this five-piece drive a Funk Train built on bulletproof grooves, peopled with earworm hooks and sent screaming into the night by an unstoppable, earth-shaking, off-beat propulsion. Fresh off the plane from their first tour to New York City, and still smothered in jet fuel, catch them now before they blow up.
Like Elliot Smith submerged in saltwater, Tugboat Captain make raw, intimate folk to be sung in blacked out lighthouses.
THE VANITY PROJECT
The Vanity Project can’t sit still. Using a loop pedal and far more instruments than it’s wise for two people to play, this duo write apocolyptic disco jams about corrupt politicians and anthemic ballads about the death of idealism. Having drawn sonic comparisons to Blur and Everything Everything, their gigs are a colourful explosion of balloons, party poppers and razor sharp wit. Winners of the 2016 national iSessions contest, they’ve been written about in the Independent, played on Radio 6 and garnered praise from the likes of Marc Riley and Everything Everything frontman Jonathan Higgs.
Drawing his lifeblood from the likes of Mura Masa and Bon Iver, HAZY writes electronic soul music which whirs between fuzzy soundscapes and crisp hooks. With sharp musicality, soaring vocals and entrancing technological manipulation, his trio deliver a live show like no other.
Pleasure Barge (Luscious Sticker, Sloppy Giusseppe, MC Jizzle, Laser Liquid Slapslap Fire and Leon) are psychedelic funk. They will try to make you dance, cry and fly simultaneously.
