Crochet with a Cause (and a pint)

Hosted by Fallow’s own Charlotte Pearson:
“I thought now might be good to come together again in solidarity with the refugees who remain displaced and living in temporary structures throughout Europe and beyond. We all spend a lot of time in the pub and it would be nice to use those hours to create something to keep another human being warm in the form of a hat.

Knitaid is a charity I have followed for a while, and they do a wide range of work with refugees, including collecting knitted clothing to distribute. I’ve got a mega simple crochet pattern to make hats and absolutely no previous experience is necessary – if I can do it you guys can DEFINITELY do it – and my lovely pal and textiles expert Elnaz will be on hand, as well as my less experienced self, to provide practical support and morale where needed.”

There will be three sessions:

28th Feb – going through the hat pattern and getting people started

7th March – continuing work on the hats and resolving any questions people might have

14th March – finishing off and sewing up the hats

The cost of the whole thing will be £5 to cover materials and to give a small donation to the Knitaid charity (the crochet hooks will be yours to take home afterwards!). Please do RSVP if you’d like to come so that I know how much wool to get!

And please please don’t be put off if you have never crocheted before – it’s super easy and most of you spend your spare time doing far more complex feats of creativity.

It would be lovely to have a proper bundle to send off and be a visual reminder that we haven’t forgotten and won’t forget about the crisis in how governments have responded to displaced people.
